PM compliance calculator
PM compliance is the share of preventive maintenance that got done inside its window. It is the single best early indicator of where reliability is heading, because the failures caused by skipped PMs arrive months after the compliance number falls.

On time means inside the window, not merely completed. A monthly PM closed six weeks late is a miss, and counting it as a hit is the most common way this metric gets gamed.

How to calculate PM compliance

90% is the target most reliability programs set, and it is normal to find the real figure in the 50s the first time it is measured against a strict window.

What counts as a compliance window?
A tolerance either side of the due date, inside which the PM still counts as on time. Ten percent of the interval is a common rule, so roughly three days for a monthly PM and about a week for a quarterly one. Whatever you choose, write it down and apply it to every asset, or the metric is not comparable between lines.
Is PM compliance the same as schedule compliance?
No. PM compliance covers preventive work only. Schedule compliance covers all planned work, including corrective jobs that were scheduled into a week. A plant can hit schedule compliance while quietly deferring PMs, which is exactly the pattern this metric exists to expose.
What should I do if compliance is low?
Check whether the PMs are worth doing before you chase the number. Programs with poor compliance usually have too many PMs, some of them on assets that do not need them, and technicians make an unwritten judgement about which to skip. Cutting the schedule to what matters often raises compliance more than adding labor does.
