The goal of our mobile application is to help maintenance and reliabilty technicians be more successful. Our new mobile home screen does this in multiple ways.
Asset-intensive organizations face a number of complex challenges when it comes to maintenance, operations, and reliability. A major theme amongst these challenges centers around workforce efficiency and productivity. In fact, it’s estimated that only 25% of a frontline technician’s day is spent on productive work.
In a time where companies are coping with volatile, global markets; human resource constraints; and increasing operational efficiency; the need for more flexible and resilient operations is more pressing than ever.
However, a new generation of digital-native professionals accustomed to consumer-grade ease of use is entering the field with the expectation that the technology they use at work will be as easy as the technology they use every day as a consumer.
UpKeep is the leader in developing meaningful mobile solutions that help maintenance, operations, and reliability professionals increase productivity to deliver better business outcomes. Our asset operations solution is part of a holistic approach combining mobility, data acquisition, workforce efficiency, and asset intelligence. Here, we’ll cover our latest workforce productivity release: the mobile home screen refresh.
Organizations and their end users are consistently expressing a need for mobile applications that do more than submit work order tickets. These employees even have new mobile requirements around areas like user experience. UpKeep’s goal with our mobile application is to provide a streamlined, easy-to-use platform that helps technicians get their job done faster. Our new mobile home screen does this in multiple ways.
With more organizational changes, less resources, and consistent performance demands, organizations must improve productivity—meaning efficiency and effectiveness—in meaningful and scalable ways. Asset-intensive organizations that thrive will focus on improving their field teams’ ability to manage and coordinate their work.
In order to help the business stay on track, ensure the right levels of availability, and not compromise necessary repair work, technicians must also be able to prioritize the work that is essential. With our new mobile enhancements, technicians and companies can configure all the work orders displayed on their home screen dashboard.
Our additions to the mobile home screen will now give technicians the ability to create a centralized hub to see all their work by priority. Technicians will also be able to customize what they see to help them stay focused. For example, technicians can display:
All work orders across their organization
Work orders assigned to them
Work orders assigned to their teams
Work orders with no assignee
Any combination of the above
Technicians and the companies they support should never be beholden to the way someone else does work. These new mobile enhancements make it easier for technicians to organize and prioritize their work, coordinate more effectively with their teams, and see their impact on the organization through personal productivity metrics.
Notifications can be a blessing and a curse. The line that separates the two outcomes is intentionality. Notifications should help, not hinder, which is to say they should communicate important information. Nowhere is this more important than for field teams, already stretched thin and juggling multiple streams of work sometimes across assets, locations, or both.
UpKeep’s perspective has been to make notifications more useful by reducing information overload through eliminating any excessive communication related to a work order. The new mobile interface gives technicians a consolidated notifications hub that not only centralizes all notifications, but also allows them to seamlessly navigate from the hub into their work through the notification, saving precious time otherwise wasted on searching for specific work orders.
A strong job market with low unemployment and the ongoing shift in workforce demographics for the maintenance, operations, and reliability sector means organizations have to do more with less. The net result is a need for high efficiency and productivity within existing teams.
Creating buy-in for a software solution isn’t easy in the best of times, but it’s that much harder if you give technicians complex software that increases friction and also prevents them from getting better at their job. The My Impact Analytics for technicians is now front and center on the home screen, giving technicians a direct line of sight into the work they have done, including the number of completed work orders, on-time completions, and much more.
Technicians don’t have time to conduct in-depth searches while they’re on a job. These technicians need to get work going—fast. That’s why the new mobile dashboard on the UpKeep app makes it easy to get work going fast. Scan an asset, see your impact, or check in on notifications to coordinate work—all in a matter of a click or two.
All of this adds up to great value for maintenance planners and schedulers as well. The basic goal of planning and scheduling is avoiding delays. The Maintenance Planner, then, improves workforce productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination, which naturally requires better communication, prioritization, and throughput.
So in addition to helping technicians do their jobs more easily, the new mobile app is also a boon for planners and schedulers who are intent on optimizing coordination through better team performance.
Economic volatility in major economic markets, war in Europe, and supply chain disruptions have forced organizations into a period of exceptional uncertainty. While asset-intensive organizations cannot control global factors, these companies must become more flexible and resilient within their own operations.
With our new batch of mobile home screen updates, we’re looking to bring the company white board to your device. If maintenance, operations, and reliability have a clear, actionable pathway to follow in order to complete what is most pressing and important, then these teams will be proactive, flexible, and built for unplanned events.
