Our close-knit remote team includes M&R veterans who help bring our mission to life each and every day. We would love to welcome more M&R professionals to our team and are excited to share stories from a few UpKeepers who made this transition themselves!
In our "UpKeep: Careers in Maintenance x Technology Webinar", CEO Ryan Chan chatted with 4 fellow UpKeepers about their journeys within Maintenance & Reliability before joining the UpKeep team.
Stephanie began working in Human Resources for one of the larger food manufacturers straight out of college. She worked in one of their manufacturing plants for about 4 years and her home plant was a part of the pizza and flatbread division - a TPM facility with about 300 employees that ran 24 hours a day! She supported all of the departments, including production and maintenance, with anything HR and safety related. Stephanie feels fortunate that her time at the plant taught her so much about operations and helped her understand the value of Asset Operations!
Jeremy spent 11 years as a field service tech/team lead for a small plumbing company in Iowa. While the company primarily served residential clients, their operations also extended into the commercial sector. Jeremy worked on the floor with technicians in manufacturing, restaurant, property management, municipalities, and agricultural industries. The company also provided 24/7 emergency service so he found himself out at all hours in all weather conditions. As Jeremy would put it, “Reactive maintenance doesn’t know what time it is!”
After serving in the United States Army, Gary started his manufacturing career in 1991 as a Autocoro Technician in a Denim plant. He then furthered his career in Maintenance Manager positions at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and LC Industries, became a business owner in a maintenance consulting firm, and even fulfilled a Plant Superintendent role at APC, Inc. With an extensive and skillful background, Gary always wanted to do more at a larger scale, which brings him into his current role and experience as a Senior Implementation Manager. Once again, he is reaching out to clients all over the world and not only giving them best practices around maintenance and CMMS systems, but past practices that have helped him through the years and giving advice on best setups. He has attained several certifications over the years like Lean Six Sigma Master Black, Belt, CMRP, OSHA Safety Champion, etc. As Gary would say, “Once you start speaking to me about maintenance, I have been told that you can hear my passion for the field through my voice.”
Nate’s career has been wholly focused in the maintenance space over the past 13 years. He spent 5 years as an F-18 mechanic in the Marine Corps focusing on Engines, secondary power systems, fuel systems and a variety of maintenance program management. He then transitioned to a DoD contractor which facilitated aircraft rework facilities that supported military fixed wing aircraft and helicopters and later focusing on building maintenance and support software products for the F-35, and commercially for large fleets of high value assets such as boats, vehicles, construction equipment, data centers, etc. Nate’s career's focus has always been in maintenance and reliability with an overall goal of ensuring the most impact can be driven from the maintenance being performed while keeping maintainers and operators safe.
