Welcoming Katie Cannell to the UpKeep family as our Human Resources (HR) Director!!

We are BEYOND excited to have Katie Cannell joining us this week as our very first HR Director. Katie will no doubt enhance our entire company and employee experience, as the People & Finance team continues to grow! Welcome Katie - we're so glad you're here!

We’re excited to welcome you to the UpKeep family, Katie! Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m excited, too! I grew up in Honolulu, but spent the last 11 years in New York City. As a recovering New Yorker, I’m very excited to now call LA home. In my free time, I love food of all kinds (including cooking), wine, yoga, animals, books, my family, and making sure my sunscreen inventory is fully stocked.  

How did you first get into Human Resources?

I was taking some time off from college and landed a customer service job with a really awesome dessert company in NYC. After a few months, I wanted more responsibility, and had the opportunity to get involved by recruiting for our retail locations and cleaning up our personnel files. I eventually moved into an HR Generalist position there, and with time moved to an entertainment/marketing company where I continued on the HR track. I’m excited to continue my journey with UpKeep now!

Why are you excited to join UpKeep?

The energy here is infectiously positive. I’m excited to work for a startup that has a strong culture and cares deeply about its employees.

What are your first thoughts about the culture and team so far?

I can’t gush enough about the positive experience I’ve had so far during the recruitment and onboarding processes with UpKeep. The environment is fast-paced yet personable, and the team here is genuinely friendly, kind, and super driven by the work they do!

We have to know - what are the merits of sunscreen?

I love SPF and I think that every person should wear sunscreen every day, reapplying throughout the day as necessary! It’s the easiest and quickest way to prevent skin issues caused by the sun and will keep your skin young and fresh for longer! 

I have an entire shelf at home dedicated to sunscreen - I have different sunscreens for different occasions and body parts: everyday use, beach time, under your eyes, if you’re feeling lazy and want a quick spray, etc. 

My friends similarly love sunscreen, and we shame each other if there’s ever a sign of burning skin. 

And finally, most importantly, what would you be if you were a kitchen utensil?

Tongs! They’re very useful when you need a little help getting that extra reach.
