Today we’re announcing the launch of a new addition to our UpKeep Edge product: Edge Runtime! With Edge Runtime, users can automatically track asset runtime hours, asset efficiency, and downtime events. This improved tracking capability allows teams to implement usage-based maintenance schedules in their organization and have greater visibility of their assets.

Efficient Runtime Data Gathering

In many organizations, technicians are sent out to physically inspect and record the hours that a machine has been running. Some companies aren’t even able to record runtime hours at all.

With Edge Runtime, runtime hours are recorded automatically. Instead of wasting man-hours with manual runtime inspections, an administrator can simply log in to UpKeep on the web and view the runtime hours for a given asset in real-time.

Make Better Asset Decisions

After viewing the metrics available with Edge Runtime, an administrator may decide that an asset isn’t performing as well as it should. Edge Runtime provides direct access to the asset in UpKeep, so the administrator can take a look, send a technician to perform maintenance on the asset, or choose to upgrade or replace the asset before it starts impacting the bottom line.

Being able to view the runtime hours and efficiency for an asset gives users the information to make better-informed decisions.

Track Downtime Events

When an asset goes down, Edge Runtime can automatically send a downtime status update to the core UpKeep application. From there, a user can view downtime history and make necessary adjustments to keep the asset running at full capacity.

Makes Usage-Based Maintenance a Breeze

Usage-based maintenance is one of the most effective types of preventive maintenance. With Edge Runtime, users are able to create a maintenance schedule based on the number of hours an asset has been running.

Edge Runtime accomplishes this by automatically creating a meter that tracks total runtime hours for an asset. With that meter in place, users can then set up meter triggers that create work orders at certain milestones (e.g., replace bearings at 500 hours).

Setting Up

To get started, Edge users receive an UpKeep-provided sensor, gateway, and access to the Edge dashboard. Users are able to add their gateway and sensor to the dashboard by scanning a QR code. Then, after clipping the sensor to the asset’s power supply and setting the operating hours for the asset, Edge Runtime goes to work.

Edge Runtime uses the sensor to determine when a machine is on or off. The total time the machine is on is the runtime hours.

Is Edge Runtime Right for You?

Edge Runtime is ideal if you:

  • Work in an industry where tracking and avoiding downtime is critical

  • Want to understand how well your assets are performing

  • Are interested in implementing usage-based maintenance

  • Want to automate runtime hour tracking
