Celebrating Social Impact at UpKeep

UpKeep is well-known for our commitment to serving the deskless workforce. What might not be as well-known is our commitment to social impact. Throughout the years, UpKeep has donated to many charities and supported the community in a multitude of ways. Today, we’re looking back on, and looking forward to, some of our social impact efforts. 

Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day

To honor Martin Luther King Jr., we’ve made a donation to Black Girls Code. As a tech company, we’re honored to donate to Black Girls Code each year. This organization helps build pathways for young women of color to embrace the current tech marketplace as builders and creators by introducing them to skills in computer programming and technology. 

We’ve also made a donation to The HBCU Green Fund–a nationwide fundraising campaign with a goal to finance critical maintenance upgrades on HBCUs (black colleges and universities). The HBCU Green Fund will specifically support building and maintenance projects that will reduce energy, cut down on water usage, and minimize the carbon footprint of HBCUs. 

Social Impact Club

In order to nurture a thriving remote culture, UpKeep is home to more than thirty internal virtual clubs on Slack. One of those clubs is the Social Impact Club–a space to discuss all things social impact, as well as how UpKeepers can collectively make the world a better place. Whether it’s a cool volunteering opportunity, spotlighting a beloved organization, sharing an interesting article, or anything else related, this is the place to be! 

Past Social Impact Efforts

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Los Angeles Mission had been running extremely low on providing supplies, such as hygienic products, clothing, and food to communities in need. To provide support during this critical time, UpKeep came together to purchase canned items and deliver them to Los Angeles Mission. Within one week, we were able to purchase 605 food items! 

The Drum Social Purpose Awards celebrates all modern-day marketing that is driving forward socially responsible marketing, brand purpose, and a truer representation of society today. In 2020, we were honored to be selected as a finalist in the category of Best Content Marketing Campaign by The Drum. We were recognized for our COVID-19 Social Impact Project, where we used our platform to spotlight our customers and those in our community who are working hard on the frontlines, while also hyper-focusing on providing them with valuable and helpful resources.
