We’re so excited to welcome Jake to the team this week! Jake is joining us as our Full Stack Engineer, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on board! Here is our interview with him!

We’re excited to welcome you to the UpKeep family today, Jake! Tell us a little about yourself!

I live in Vail, Colorado. I have been engaged for nearly two years, and plan to tie the knot in October. I love to travel, ski, mountain bike and just be outside. I am joining UpKeep as a Full-Stack Engineer working with Mark Mckelvy, our Product Manager, on UpKeep Edge.

How did you first get into Engineering?

My first job in software was as an intern at a company called Inntopia. When I first started there, I spent most of my time installing and configuring Inntopia services on client’s servers. It was super scary at times (working directly in clients' reservations and sales databases). But, I learned so much about the development process and it really set me up for a career that I love.

Why are you excited to join UpKeep?

Wow, so many reasons! I love the mission of serving the deskless workers and shining a spotlight on the work that they do. Additionally, IoT is the technology that excites me most, and having an opportunity to work in IoT day in and day out is a dream.

What are your first thoughts about the culture and team so far?

It’s amazing, I really feel like every interaction I have had has been super positive! The team has done a tremendous job in bringing the UpKeep culture to our current work from home lives.

Jake, you mentioned how you finished the Elk Mountain Grand Traverse on three separate occasions - tell us how you got into competitive skiing and what you love about it.

I wouldn’t say that I am super competitive, but I love a challenge! The race is an exercise in type two fun (fun classifications). The feeling after exerting yourself for 12+ hours in the cold, crossing over 13,000 ft. passes really makes you feel like you have accomplished something. Plus, you only get so many opportunities to dress up in spandex with 200+ other adults, so you have to take those shots when they present themselves.

Finally, and most importantly, what would you be if you were a kitchen utensil?

Spatula - I think they are really the jack of all trades in the kitchen.

Welcome, Jake!
