Part of me hesitates to answer a question about the latest innovations in facility management because my answer may be quickly outdated. Yes, technological innovations everywhere seem to be moving at lightening speed, and that’s no different in our neck of the woods. Here are some cool things that are already being adopted by the leaders in our industry:

Virtual Reality

It’s not all about video games these days. Virtual reality has found a place in facilities management. With today’s modeling tools, you can actually create a comprehensive visual model of a new facility before construction begins. In addition, virtual reality technology can help managers improve technician safety in underground tunnels, guide retrofitting and upgrading projects, and show where expansions can result in maximum efficiency.

Robotics

Although many people worry that drones and robots will steal human jobs, they can actually take over some more mundane and dangerous work, freeing up technicians to do higher level, safer tasks.
