Primal Pet Foods

Excel spreadsheets and pen and paper were how Primal Pet Foods ran their asset operations management before they started using UpKeep. Now, Primal Pet Foods is running at a smoother pace and integrating UpKeep has saved them thousands of dollars in revenue and has made maintenance management that much easier.

We had the honor to meet with the Director of Engineering and Maintenance at Primal Pet Foods, Norman Manty who shared his maintenance journey with us. We learned how he went from using dated technology to implementing UpKeep and condition-based maintenance in his work life.

Out with the old...

When Norman first started working at Primal Pet Foods, the company had nothing but an Excel spreadsheet to track purchase orders. They were a purely reactive maintenance team, fixing things only when they broke down and caused trouble. Norman knew it was time for a better maintenance system for his team.

… In with the new

After researching various options, he found UpKeep. Norman was impressed by all the boxes it checked off for his team. He especially loved the customizable features, which allowed him to tailor the data that his mechanics were seeing to fit the company's specific needs. The best part of it all? It was straightforward for his team to use.

Living on the edge

UpKeep Edge was one of the features that Norman found particularly useful, helping him manage the freezers and coolers in the food plant. This feature sends text alerts when the temperature in the freezers starts to warm up, even during off-hours. This allowed Norman and his team to take proactive steps to prevent equipment failure and ultimately, costly production downtime. With UpKeep Edge they are able to monitor the company’s freezers and coolers 24 hours a day, without having to physically go check on them.

Straightforward Solutions

Asset operations management is vital to Primal Pet Foods because if the assets aren't functioning correctly, the company doesn't make money. If the company isn't profitable, it won't survive. One production line down would mean a loss of $160,000 in revenue per day. So having all the necessary components available in stock was crucial to prevent such downtime.

Norman found UpKeep's CMMS program very easy to use. UpKeep Edge especially improved their maintenance process. He particularly found the UpKeep team's support to be highly responsive and understanding. He appreciates that UpKeep continuously polishes their program to ensure they deliver the best product to their customers.

High-Quality Results

Thanks to UpKeep and its sensor technology, Norman and his team were able to transition from reactive to proactive maintenance, ultimately saving the company time and money. UpKeep now allows them to focus on their core business of producing high-quality pet food.
